BUPP pneumatic actuator control unit

The BUPP pneumatic actuator control unit, manufactured by RusTechnology LLC, is a DIN-rail controller for remote valve control and telemetry inside the cabinets of commercial resource metering points. It combines cellular connectivity, galvanically isolated RS-485 data collection from compatible external meters, cabinet tamper detection, actuator position sensing and dedicated outputs for the solenoid valve and the compressor.

Purpose

The BUPP acts as an intermediate controller between the local valve assembly, the metering devices and the dispatch server. It polls compatible meters over RS-485, monitors the state of the cabinet and transmits telemetry over GPRS or NB-IoT.

Capabilities
  • Valve control. Dedicated outputs drive the solenoid valve and the compressor according to the project logic, providing reliable remote shut-off in gas, water and heat supply systems.
  • Metering point integration. The controller reads current values, archives, configuration parameters and events from compatible meters over RS-485. It also polls external gas volume correctors, water meters, heat calculators and other field devices with an RS-485 interface, consolidating telemetry at cabinet level.
  • Cabinet monitoring. A dedicated dry-contact tamper input records unauthorised access to the cabinet, while a three-wire circuit tracks the actuator rod position in real time.
  • Built for the field. A DIN-rail enclosure powered from 12–24 V DC with an operating range of −40 to +60 °C is designed for year-round service in an outdoor cabinet.
Typical applications
  • Gas metering points with remote shut-off — gas volume correctors and cabinet telemetry.
  • Water distribution chambers with automated valves and meters with an RS-485 interface.
  • Heat substations of district heating systems — heat calculators, valve stations and cabinet telemetry.
  • Remote valve stations that require centralised dispatch control.
Connected equipment

The controller connects to the 12/24 V cabinet power supply with optional battery backup, a GSM antenna, a cabinet tamper sensor, a compressor, a solenoid valve, an actuator position sensing board, a pneumatic actuator, and compatible meters, correctors and calculators with an RS-485 interface.

Data transmission security
  • TLS 1.3.
  • AES-128-GCM, AES-256-GCM and ChaCha20-Poly1305 encryption — AEAD modes with integrity protection.
  • ECDHE key exchange on the P-256 curve: a unique key for every session, providing forward secrecy.
  • Server authentication with an X.509 certificate (ECDSA P-256 / SHA-256), the trust chain verified up to the root authority embedded in the device.
  • Hashing and key derivation: SHA-256/384/512, HMAC, HKDF.
  • Remote firmware updates over the secure channel only.
